We very often get asked “does Google AdWords actually work” then we hear - I never click on those Sponsored Links, no one ever does!
In reality, many people actually do click on them and here is why - Google has become the world leader in Search engines by delivering exactly what the searcher is looking for and ensuring the most highly relevant search results appear at the top of the page.
Over many years of using Google we have become to expect the most relevant search results to appear at the top of the page. Google has recently started placing Sponsored Links (Google AdWords ads) above the natural or organic search listings. We therefore have been trained that if the search results are shown at the top of the page – then they must be the best and most relevant – and 9 times out of 10 they are!
The primary reason we click on Sponsored Links is because we find that these ads are highly relevant. Google AdWords delivers incredibly accurate results based on the actual search term – and we now trust these results to be accurate more than any other time. So, yes we do click on Sponsored Links as we trust them to give us exactly what we are searching for.
The natural or organic search results that appear under the Sponsored Links appear as a result of a very complex Google algorithm and the website owners have no direct control over where they show in the list of results. Search Engine Optimisation will certainly help to get your website and content found – but being found (or even shown) for a relevant search term is certainly not guaranteed. The only way to guarantee to appear at the top of Google and to show for highly relevant search terms is to use Sponsored Links or Google AdWords.
Unlike the organic search results, Google AdWords are completely controllable and to ensure they are incredibly relevant and accurate, Google offers advertisers discounts on the cost of an AdWords campaign based on accuracy, well targeted, performance, relevancy – They also reward good performing ads with 'Top Placement' which means searchers will click on them!
Having your ads show in top placement on Google means they are considerably more likely to be clicked on, and you will deliver more visitors to your website.
